Job Summary:
The Special Education Advocate will play a crucial role in supporting individuals with special needs and their families by providing guidance, support, and advocacy within the special education system. Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with students, families, and school staff to identify and address individual needs and concerns related to special education services.
2. Provide expert advice and guidance to families regarding special education laws, policies, and procedures, ensuring they understand their rights and options.
3. Advocate for students with disabilities during Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, disciplinary hearings, and other relevant meetings, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
4. Conduct comprehensive assessments of students' educational needs and develop appropriate strategies and accommodations to support their learning and development.
5. Assist families in navigating the special education system, including accessing appropriate resources, services, and support networks.
6. Collaborate with community organizations, agencies, and professionals to ensure the provision of comprehensive and coordinated services for students with disabilities.
7. Stay updated on changes in special education laws, regulations, and best practices to provide accurate and up-to-date information to families and schools.
8. Maintain accurate records and documentation of all advocacy activities and interventions.
9. Serve as a liaison between families and school districts, promoting effective communication and fostering positive relationships.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in special education, psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. At least [X] years of experience working directly with individuals with disabilities, preferably in an advocacy or support role.
3. In-depth knowledge of federal and state special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

10. Proficiency in using technology and educational software to support advocacy efforts.
